Burnie
What's the uniform?
It's thought he was a harbour master in Hong Kong
Could anyone identify this uniform, please? I think it might be a 19th century naval uniform, and if confirmed, the picture is probably of Alfred Edward Burnie who was a marine surveyor and was at one time the Harbour Master of Hong Kong.
My information suggests this could have been in the mid to late 1800s. Alfred Edward was married but I have no information about his wife. He had five children: Alice; Edward Alfred; Constance; Caroline; and Arthur. All of them were sent to England for their schooling. Arthur lived and worked in Hong Kong and was taken prisoner by the Japanese during WWII. Edward Alfred had two daughters: Jeanette (Jill) and Doreen. I have no information about the other children.
